The program is designed to train professional linguists who know both the fundamentals of linguistics and the modern methods of research. The skills also include expert analysis and software engineering, which allows our graduates to participate in the development of innovative language-related computer technologies.
The faculty includes developers from large research and commercial systems in the field of natural language data processing, which provides a link between academic training and practical computational linguistics. Particular attention is paid to the participation in national and international conferences.
Some of our teachers are authors of fundamental textbooks on linguistic, experts of international renown and project managers of large automatic language processing systems: Dr. Testelets, Dr. Podlesskaya, Dr. Selegey, Dr. Iomdin, Dr. Sharov, as well as represetatives of leading companies in the field of computational linguistics: IBM (Watson system), Yandex, ABBYY (Lingvo, FineReader, Compreno).
The educational method we employ can be described as a project-oriented approach. The involvement of students in research takes place on the basis of RSUH and the companies that develop NLP programs (primarily ABBYY), which, of course, is a big advantage for both the students themselves and for their potential employers. Some of the projects are a joint combination between the departments of computational linguistics of other universities (primarily MIPT) and RSUH.
