Eastern European studies: culture of mass communications

The program involves fundamental theoretical training, a comprehensive study of the latest approaches and methods of studying culture. A unique feature of the program is the connection between theoretical training, social and practical knowledge and practical skills of expert analysis, project-related and consulting work.

The program teaches the forms and practices of culture in the XX - early XXI century, develops academic and critical understanding of the diverse phenomena of modern culture and art as well as the practical development of the production process and the transfer of cultural meanings and meanings in the modern world.

Significant attention in the training program is given to working with various types of texts of modern culture (material, verbal, visual, digital).

Types of occupation:

  • organizational and managerial;
  • analytical.

Key disciplines of the program: theory and methodology of culture, research methodology and academic culture, culturology in the modern world, cultural research in Russia, theories and methods of studying mass culture, visual studies, theories and practices of media culture, and others.

Graduates can carry out professional activities in the field of cultural studies and social and humanitarian knowledge, cultural policy and management, cultural and natural heritage, sociocultural and mass communications, education. They can work in cultural institutions, museum associations and complexes, the media, advertising agencies, travel agencies, educational institutions.

Ph.D. studies comprise the track “Theory and history of culture”.
