The program has no match in other educational institutions of Russia. Comparative specialization allows us to bring to a different level of theoretical knowledge and practical application that which is inherent in modern philological and general liberal arts education.
Each of the courses is a unique and original development and involves conceptual coverage of the most important methodological and historical-literary issues.
The Department teaches European and American literature, thus getting the students acquainted with both the literature and the basic works of European critical thought in the original language. In order to offer suitable internship opportunities, the Department of Comparative History of Literature closely interacts with two central journals of humanities: "Voprosy Literatury" (the largest Russian journal of literary criticism, Ch. Ed. Dr. Shaitanov, professor of the Department) and “Inostrannaya Literatura” (the largest magazine describing the latest trends, phenomena and issues of modern and classical foreign literature).
