The course aims to highlight the milestones in evolvement and elaboration of the norms for writing in English. The contents of the course encompasses description of the main stages in the development of the English literary norm, analysis of the historic change in the way one should write a text in English (which is achieved through study of the texts from the 16th through to the 20th centuries), a survey of chief modern tendencies in standardizing form and contents for texts of various genres and types, the main focus being attached to the academic genres.
