The art of speechmaking

The course analyzes certain theoretical aspects of public rhetoric, not presenting theory for its own sake but making it a method of obtaining practical skills in public speaking.

Within the course, students analyze sample speeches delivered by the outstanding politicians in the XIX-XX centuries in order to

• to assess the potential audience (in order to choose the topic of speech);
• to construct an outline of speech;
• to define its aim;
• to construct thesis, arguments, and conclusion
• to use verbal and nonverbal methods of speaking in order to attract the audience’s attention.
