The course introduces students to the fundamentals of stylistic theory as well as to the new tendencies in stylistic analysis promoted by the advances in functional stylistics and text linguistics. In class students are encouraged to interpret selections from English poetry and prose, decoding their artistic message or identifying distinctive features peculiar to the functional style in question. The awareness of the expressive means of the English language and their stylistic function promotes the students’ general linguistic competence and practical command of English.
