The course addresses theoretical and practical aspects of Modern English vocabulary study, such as the relationship between the word origin and its semantic potential, peculiarities of word formation, paradigmatic relations between words, as well the opposition of standard and non-standard lexical subsystems. Special attention is paid to the comparison between the English and Russian lexical systems.
