“We must do everything so that the memory of our heroes, our grandfathers, great-grandfathers, lives on and is passed on down. We hope that together with the Russian Orthodox Church and other confessions, we will do everything to be worthy of the memory of those who sacrificed their lives, giving us the opportunity to plan for the future, have children and grandchildren,” said Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma, in his welcoming speech.
On January 30, the plenary session of the 13th Christmas Parliamentary Meetings was held in the State Duma of the Russian Federation as part of the 33rd International Christmas Educational Readings “80th Anniversary of the Great Victory: Memory and Spiritual Experience of Generations”. The event was attended by the Academic Director of RSUH Efim Pivovar, First Vice-Rector Dmitry Bobrov, and Director of the RSUH Communications Department Maria Korovina.
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' spoke at the opening of the Meetings.
“The unity of the people is not just a political or social phenomenon. It is a spiritual reality that is based on common values, on common goal-setting and common responsibility for the fate of the country. In the current difficult circumstances of globalization, information wars, the imposition of ideologies alien to us and unprecedented external pressure, we are called upon to make every effort to protect our traditions, our culture and our faith,” the Patriarch said.
Patriarch Kirill and parliamentarians spoke about the importance of preserving the memory of the feats of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.
"Our sacred duty is to carefully preserve in memory the truth about the past war, about these historical events and actively resist the cynical and, unfortunately, incessant attempts of hostile forces to belittle the role of the Soviet people in the defeat of Nazism. In the current difficult circumstances, we are called upon to make every effort to protect our traditions, our culture and our faith," said His Holiness.
The Victory, that was achieved 80 years ago, was the result of the selfless service and unity of our people, which we must always remember.
The Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin also highlighted the issue of the national identity of each nation and the desire to protect its values and traditions.
"When the unfriendly states, those who have lost their way even in their own country, try to destroy the family, the church, trample on faith, it will but end very badly for them first and foremost. And now we see what changes are happening in many countries, when people are beginning to realize what happened to them, what those politicians did to them, those who promptly began to impose a pseudo-culture, pseudo-values, crossing out and rejecting morality and the very essence of man,” he said.
After the meeting, the following round tables were held: “The Spiritual Front of Russia,” “From Saving the Nation to Multiplying the Nation,” “Educating Patriotism in the Educational Environment”.
