The 3rd All-Russian Conference “Readings in Memory of Dr. Basovskaya»

The Readings were held at RSUH on May 22, 2023. They were dedicated to the memory of one of the most prominent medievalists, Dr. Natalya Basovskaya.The Conference was organized by the Department of World History of the Faculty of History of RSUH. The Readings were opened by Dr. Lebedev, Chair of the Department of World History, who delivered a welcoming speech.

At the plenary session, Dr. Alexander Kleimenov (the Tolstoy Tula State Pedagogical University) spoke about the reflection of the transformation of the power of Alexander the Great and the political reality of the principate era in the writings of Curtius Rufus; Dr. Natalia Rostislavleva spoke about the Protestant ministry during World War I.

The first section ("International conflicts and their settlement in the history of civilizations") considered relations between Scythia Minor and the ancient centers of Taurica, the search for peace in the Peloponnesian War, and the role of the French commander Paul de La Barthe in the war between France and Genoa.

The topic of the second section was "Man and society in the era of socio-cultural transformations and crises: from antiquity to the present". This topic was discussed using the examples of a citizen of Athens, the French-Canadian society of 1990–2020 and other historical eras.

The third section ("Power, society and personality in the Western European medieval world") presented talks on the Angevin Empire, spiritual education of novices of the Franciscan order, metaphor of the political body (a polemical tool of philosophical treatises and poetry of France and England during the Hundred Years War).
