"Why am I talking about ideological sovereignty, among other things? Because the algorithms, the principles of artificial intelligence are laid down, "..." for now mainly by people focusing on certain values, language, images, culture, understanding of history, traditions, national characteristics and interests. In order to determine the future, the fate of Russia, we must create such technologies ourselves, independently,” said Vladimir Putin at the international conference “Journey into the World of Artificial Intelligence.”
The Forum “Digitalization and Ethics of Artificial Intelligence: Theories, Practices, Agents,” which is being held on December 19-20 at RSUH, is dedicated to study of the media space.
At the plenary session “Traditional Values and New Meanings of Media Reality,” the speakers discussed how the values of the younger generation were changing under the influence of the media space.
Valery Fadeev, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, and Academic Director of the Institute of Legacy and Modern Society at RSUH, spoke about why an increased attention was now being paid to the concept of “traditional values” and how it should be understood correctly:
“I want to explain to students what traditional values are, because many people think that this is something comical. Traditional values are not something that pulls back, but something that captures the core essence of our people, the essence of historical development. And we have nothing to be ashamed of here, our people are the greatest people!"
At the meeting, General Director of VTsIOM Valery Fedorov said that the results of recent studies showed a positive reaction from respondents regarding the use of artificial intelligence, and techno-optimism was noticeable in our society. Commenting on the rapid technological development, he noted the duality of the influence of the media space and AI tools on the younger generation, and spoke on the preliminary conclusions of the research:
"Technologies in themselves are neutral. What matters is how we use them. Young people continue to actively use the prohibited social networks. It is necessary not to criticize them, but to help them overcome Internet addiction, strengthen measures to control content and take control of the algorithms for generating recommendations," said Valery Fedorov.
