RSUH visited by a delegation from the Republic of Zimbabwe

On October 26, a delegation from the Republic of Zimbabwe, headed by Mr. Raymore Machingura, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, paid a working visit to RSUH.

The meeting was dedicated to the presentation of the Russian-African Network University (RAFU), of which RSUH is a member.

The Zimbabwe delegation was represented by:

● Mr. Raymore Machingura, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development of the Republic of Zimbabwe,

● Mr. Willie Davison Ganda, Director of the Department of Innovation and Technology of the Ministry of Higher Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development of the Republic of Zimbabwe,

● Ms. Rebecca Kaviya, Officer of the Legal Department of the Ministry of Higher Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development of the Republic of Zimbabwe,

● Dr. Paul Mapfumo, Rector of the University of Zimbabwe,

● Dr. Talon Garikayi, Vice-Rector of the Harare Institute of Technology,

● Dr. Victor Ngonidzashe Muzvidziwa, Vice-Chancellor of the Midlands State University

● Dr. Mqhele Enok-Hershal Dlodlo, Vice-Chancellor of the National University of Science and Technology and other representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

On behalf of the RSUH, the meeting was attended by:

● Dr. Olga Pavlenko, First Vice-Rector,

● Dr. Nadezhda Arkhipova, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs,

● Dr. Pavel Shkarenkov, Vice-Rector for Continuing Education,

● Dr.Vera Zabotkina, Acting Vice-Rector for International Cooperation.

The Russian side was also represented by members of the administration of RSUH, headed by Rector Bezborodov, Mr. Sergei Terashkevich, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Mr. Andrei Bryksenov, Head of the Working Group on Cooperation in the Mineral Resources Sector of the international complex Russia-Uganda for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, Deputy Director of the Representative Office of the Russian State Hydrometeorological University in Moscow, Mr. Andrei Rashchin, Head of the Working Group for Cooperation in the Mineral Sector of the Russia-Uganda complex for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, Mr. Alexander Zotin, Director of the International Center for Applied African Studies, as well as faculty and students of RSUH.

Opening the meeting in the RSUH Academic Council Hall, Alexander Borisovich greeted the delegation of the Republic of Zimbabwe:

“RSUH is welcoming the delegation, which is focused on inter-university cooperation and led by the Ministry of Education of Zimbabwe. It is significant for us that you have visited our University. Since 1981, our countries have been closely cooperating and RSUH has never stood aside always keeping in touch with the partner countries of Russia”, stressed Rector Bezborodov.

Rector also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation for including RSUH into the Russian-African Network University.

“I am glad to be in Russia, at RSUH. Cooperation with Russia is important for us. The universities of the Republic are ready to cooperate with your country. At the meeting we will discuss the main issues of our further joint work,” said Deputy Minister Reymore Machingura.

The event hosted a presentation of the Russian-African Network University (RAFU), created in August this year to strengthen cooperation in education, science and economic development between Russia and the states of the African continent.

The University was founded on the basis of 12 Russian universities and research centers.

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation worked on the creation of RAFU, and the Vernadsky Crimean Federal University was tapped to be the Russian go-to center.

Mr. Sergei Terashkevich, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Science of the RF, noted that RAFU was building an individual trajectory for humanities, natural science, technical and management programs.

Also, RAFU will coordinate the organization and conduct of joint academic and scientific-practical events.

Dr. Vera Zabotkina, Acting Vice-Rector for International Affairs of RSUH, made a presentation on the activities of the University. She expressed gratitude to the delegation for the interest in cooperation between Russia and Zimbabwe.

Vera Ivanovna spoke about the University's international profile and cooperation with 230 foreign educational organizations from 54 countries in Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Australia, as well as the participation of RSUH in Erasmus +.

Other topics discussed at the meeting were related to interaction with the universities of the Republic of Zimbabwe: opportunities for academic mobility, implementation of joint programs and research cooperation.

The meeting culminated in the signing of an agreement between a consortium of Russian universities members of RAFU, and the University of Zimbabwe. The document was signed by Rector of RSUH Alexander Bezborodov on behalf of Dr. Falaleev, Rector of the Vernadsky University and Mr. Raymore Machingura, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development.
