The Second International Forum of Ministers of Education “Shaping the Future” was held in Kazan on June 9-13. Among the participants were ministers of education of China, Iran, India, Brazil, Mexico and other countries.
On June 11, under the chairmanship of the Head of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov, a meeting of the ministers of education of these countries took place at the Forum. For the first time, the Ministers of Education of the BRICS countries met on one platform in a new enlarged membership, outlining priorities for further work and summing up the development of the interstate association in the field of educational projects against the backdrop of global challenges.
During the meeting, the participants reached a number of agreements, according to which the list of priority areas of training within the BRICS Network University project will be expanded (it is planned to increase the number of participating universities to 20 from each country). The participants decided to set up a working group on the issue of mutual recognition of qualifications.
On June 8, the delegation was received by Rector Bezborodov at RSUH. The issues under discussion were prospects for interaction, potential joint projects in the field of education and science, academic exchange, and the possibility of creating double degree programs. Both sides expressed confidence that cooperation would help strengthen the scientific potential of both countries.
At the Forum, a meeting was held with Mr. Trinchenko, Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, with the delegation from the Brazilian Ministry of Education.
In addition, in Kazan, the RSUH delegation held a number of meetings with representatives of ministries of higher education, including those from Iran, South Africa and other BRICS countries, to discuss cooperation between the universities of these countries and RSUH.
Following the meeting, the participants signed the Declaration of the 11th Meeting of the BRICS Ministers on Education, as well as the Protocol on the Accession of Egypt, Iran and the UAE to the Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of the BRICS Network University of 2015.
