RSUH at the international conference “100th Anniversary of the Russian Revolution: Unification for the sake of the Future”
President Pivovar participated in the event 31 October 2017. The Conference was held under the auspices of the Government Commission on Compatriots Living Abroad and the Coordination Council of Russian compatriots. 155 representatives of public organizations from 92 countries took part in the event.
Mr. Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered the welcome speech in which he described the Revolution as the fulcrum in Russian history and said that Russian compatriots living abroad continued to make a unique contribution to life and development of their host countries. However, as Mr. Lavrov pointed out, there are still some countries where ethnic Russians are discriminated against.
Mr. Drozdov, Chair of the Coordination Council of Russian Compatriots, talked about the role of the Revolution in the creation of Russian communities abroad.
Mr. Torkunov, Rector of MGIMO and Chair of the Steering Committee for the organisation of the celebration of the 100th
anniversary of the Revolution, talked about the significance of the Revolution for Russia as well as the world.
Metropilitan Hilarion, Chair of the Patriarchal Department for External Church Relations, conveyed the words of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Rus’, saying that the Russian communities abroad had remained Russian in spirit and had preserved their national identification.
RSUH experts сarry out regular research and participate in programs related to compatriots living abroad. The Institute of Post-Soviet and Inter-regional research, in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Relations, offers a training program “Education in law and history as a basis for legal protection of compatriots”.
