The history and prospects of strategic, educational, academic research and humanitarian cooperation were discussed at the Russian-Indonesian conference at RSUH, dedicated to the anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
“RSUH is the largest liberal arts university in the country. It offers 60 educational programs of various levels. Many projects are being implemented with more than 240 foreign partners, but cooperation with such a large country as Indonesia is currently of particular importance as it is strategic, educational, research and humanities-related,” noted Olga Pavlenko, Vice-Rector for Research at RSUH, in her welcoming speech.
On the part of RSUH, one of the proofs of the importance of such cooperation was the invitation of Indonesian students to RSUH to receive an education under the STEM program, as well as a decision to include the Indonesian language in the educational program of RSUH.
The importance of a comprehensive interaction with Russia was also noted by the Indonesian side. The Indonesian Ambassador to Russia recalled the significant diplomatic and economic support from the USSR in the first years of independence, which had contributed to the internal economic development of his country.
"Our friendship has stood the test of time, having overcome economic, political challenges and geopolitical upheavals. It was a journey on a boat of change and continuity, based on mutual respect and common aspirations. Indonesia and Russia have been closely connected for 2 centuries now," said Jose Tavares.
In addition, the participants discussed the strategy of a dialogue based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and cooperation.
"Over the past 75 years, relations between Russia and Indonesia, the two countries with ancient and distinctive cultures, have developed in the spirit of equal and mutually beneficial partnership. The key to this long-standing friendship, which continues today, is the intertwined historical memory of our peoples," said Ruslan Gagkuev, Chairman of the Board of the Russian Historical Society.
During the discussion session, 9 presentations were given on various aspects of relations between Russia and Indonesia. The discussion touched upon the history of contacts between the two countries and the prospects for their cooperation in 2025, new models of global relations, the vector towards a multipolar world, the importance of bilateral cooperation in the field of submarine defense, air transport and nuclear energy.
