Results of the RSUH athletics year

Dr. Igor Lazarev, Chair of the Department of Physical Education, Sports and Life Safety at RSUH, spoke about our athletic results.

1. What are the results of the 2023-2024 academic year?

From September 2023 to June 2024, approximately 90 athletic events were held, involving over 4,000 students. These can be divided into three categories: competitions within RSUH, interuniversity competitions (the 36th Moscow Student Sports Games), and the Moskomsport competitions. 17 national student teams of RSUH participate in city and regional competitions. More than 350 students took part in almost all interuniversity sports competitions. Thanks to the interaction of Irakli Bolkvadze, Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Social Work, with the Vice-Rectors of other universities, we were able to establish contacts to hold joint competitions with the Financial University and plan volleyball tournaments with the Stroganov Russian State University of Arts. Over 650 students were enrolled in 16 sports clubs.

2. Which events were the most significant?

Our largest events are the RSUH Sports Festival (1,600 participants) and the RSUH Freshman Spartakiada (about 1,000 participants), at which about 25 competitions of various types are held. In third place in popularity are the Rector’s Cup competitions, with over 100 participants. The volleyball tournaments attract no fewer participants. Among the memorable events I can mention “Winter Games 2024”, held at the training center of the Financial University “Forest Lake”. The event featured new types of competitions for our students: relay race, tubing, curling, ski biathlon, snow volleyball, tubing races.

3. What new programs have been introduced this year?

This year the Nordic walking club was opened. Recreational swimming is available to all students at the Children's Sports Palace (Rimskaya metro) four times a week. On Kirovogradskaya Street 25, there are volleyball meets for beginners and a functional training program. On Monday evenings, everyone can play volleyball, and on Saturdays engage in other athletic activities.

4. What achievements would you mention specifically?

The most productive teachers of the Department this year have been Professor Kuryatnikova and senior lecturer Zyuzina. Their downhill skiing teams took 2nd team place in Moscow Student Sports Games. The swimming team performed successfully at various competitions, here we can point out freshman Vadim Bespalov. For the first time this year, our students competed at the 36th Moscow Student Sports Games in adaptive sports. Our 2nd year students with disabilities, Veronika Borisova (visually impaired), Polina Razzhivina (cerebral palsy) and Ilya Muravyov became winners of the Competition.

Coached by lecturer Elena Akimova, the varsity tug-of-war team took 2nd place in Moscow Student Sports Games and 3rd place in Moscow Championship. The soccer team, trained by Nikolai Bezruchenko, Professor of our Department, took 2nd place in the interuniversity micro futsal tournament. Denis Gotsyuk took 3rd place in the National Student Chess League Cup, coached by Artem Pugachev.

In addition, for the first time this year, a video clip competition was held on the topic of promoting sports: it was shot on the sports grounds of RSUH. The 10 best videos are posted on VKontakte.

Also, on April 15, 2024, a unique cooperation agreement was signed between RSUH and Spartak-Moscow football club.
