The Rector on Russia's First Humanitarian University

On April 10, 2025, Andrei Loginov was officially appointed Rector of RSUH. Here are some of his key quotes on the University, historical knowledge, and digital technologies:

On the mission and direction of RSUH:

The potential RSUH holds in the field of social and human sciences is among the most significant in Russia. As RSUH offers the widest range of social and humanities disciplines, so it bears the strategic task of shaping the socio-humanitarian paradigm in our country.”

RSUH’s mission can be summarized in three concepts: interdisciplinarity, convergence, and multipolarity. From the start, interdisciplinarity has defined our professional training. Convergence means deep integration not only of the social sciences and humanities but also the exact and natural sciences, which is a hallmark of today’s intellectual era. Digital technology is the main tool enabling this convergence, and it’s central to our mission. Multipolarity has been declared the guiding principle for RSUH’s development.”

At RSUH, we ensure the necessary conditions to equip graduates with relevant competencies. We train broadly skilled humanities specialists.”

“The experts RSUH prepares – in history, archival science, and records management – are more important than ever. Teaching students how to work with historical sources, analyze them critically, and engage young people in research are crucial tasks for the University and higher education in general.”

“The opportunities we offer our students, and academic colleagues are provided with full dedication and genuine love for our University. We want you to share that passion.”

On historical knowledge:

In today's information-rich world, historical knowledge is subject to interpretation and representation. As Sergey Naryshkin says, historical truth is knowledge of the past obtained through scientific means. That’s the standard we uphold –  ensuring that history is studied and taught with scientific integrity. It’s the only clear criterion we have when evaluating information, especially from social media.”

On digital technology:

Humanities scholars must be a reflective voice in the use of digital technologies, because they understand human nature.”
