RSUH hosted the tenth annual international educational event "Geographical Dictation".
"Knowledge of geography is one of the very important features of any national identity. Where does this identity begin? First of all, with the unity of the territory. Without this, it is impossible for a state to exist. Moreover, Russia, as a state-civilization located on two continents, is the largest state in the world. Therefore, the study of geography, the interest in geography is a very important nation-forming principle in our civilization," said Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Pavel Shkarenkov in his welcoming speech.
The first Dictation took place in 2015. Over the 9 last years about four million people have participated in it. Every year the number of venues for the event grows as the Dictation becomes more popular. So far, 130 countries have joined it. The Dictation is held on all continents of our planet, including Antarctica.
This time the Dictation began with a video message and good wishes from the cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin, Ivan Wagner and Alexander Gorbunov, who also took part in the annual international educational event.
"We have been writing the Dictation on the International Space Station for the past seven years. The planet is undoubtedly better visible from the ISS, but, frankly, even we have not learned all the geography of Earth, so we join in every year," the cosmonauts said.
First, a short geographic warm-up was held. Three winners of the warm-up quiz were presented with RSUH souvenirs. At the end of the event, all participants were awarded certificates.
