Cultural Heritage of Russia: Interactive Atlas of Small-Numbered Peoples of the Country

On December 20, the RSUH hosted a strategic session "The Role of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence in Preserving the Languages and Cultures of the Small-Numbered Peoples of Russia", dedicated to the presentation and discussion of the "Interactive Atlas of the Small-Numbered Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East: Languages and Cultures".

Olga Pavlenko, Vice-Rector for Research at RSUH, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech, saying:

"The Atlas is a large and serious project that the University launched 3 years ago tasked by President Putin. It was a very serious and responsible project for us".

The Atlas, developed by RSUH with the support of the Association of the Small-Numbered Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation and the Federal Agency for Nationalities, was created to preserve, popularize and develop the traditional culture and languages of the small-numbered peoples.

"The Atlas has become not only a treasure trove of knowledge and a representative museum for the preservation of languages and cultures, but also a living public platform where representatives of all communities can reach out to each other and present information. This is extremely important," added Olga Pavlenko.

Today, the Atlas contains information about all 40 of the small-numbered peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East, as well as their languages. On November 5, TASS hosted a presentation of the full version of the Atlas. The has been ongoing since 2021, and more than 70 scientists and experts from leading academic institutes and universities working on relevant topics took part in its development.
