The future does not come by itself — it is created by dreamers who are not afraid to test their ideas in practice.
On October 7, at the National Center “Russia,” a quiz titled “The History of the Future: The Technologies of Science Fiction” took place, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of writer Arkady Strugatsky. The event became part of the open program of the 2nd International Symposium “Creating the Future,” implemented within the framework of the Decade of Science and Technology.
“Modern Russian science is demonstrating truly outstanding achievements: the world’s only nuclear icebreaker fleet, the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine, our own international space station, ultra-powerful quantum computers, and the imminent application of an innovative cancer vaccine. Even greater discoveries lie ahead — and perhaps you will be their authors,” said Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Denis Sekirinsky.
The event was moderated by television host Yana Churikova. The journalist emphasized that science fiction helped us see how the ideas of the past become part of modern reality, as many technologies that had once seemed impossible now firmly entered our lives.
Based on the quiz results, a list of 100 finalists will be formed in each federal district — ten of the best participants from each district and twenty representatives from the new regions of Russia. For the winners, an intensive educational program is planned: a trip to Dubna with an excursion to the collider, as well as meetings with scientists and visits to leading scientific and technological centers that demonstrate how the ideas of tomorrow are already being realized in contemporary science.
