On September 29, a session dedicated to the opening of the International Russian-Brazilian Center was held in the hall of the Academic Council of RSUH. The event was attended by representatives of the academic community of both countries, as well as the Ambassador of the Republic of Brazil and representatives of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting was opened by Rector Bezborodov, who said: “The opening of the first International Russian-Brazilian Center in Russia is a very significant event for the development and strengthening of fruitful and long-lasting relations between our states. I express my deepest gratitude to everyone who took part in its creation”.
His Excellency Rodrigo de Lima Baena Soares, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Russian Federation, expressed confidence that the creation of the Center would contribute to a more intensive and high-quality cultural interaction between our countries through science and education. Then the Rector and Mr. Soares cut the red ribbon in honor of the opening of the International Russian-Brazilian Center at RSUH.
“Brazil is a time-tested, reliable ally of Russia both in bilateral interactions and on the BRICS platform. I believe that the Center’s contribution to work in the field of science will be very significant and tangible and that many educational events will be organized on its basis in partnership with the Brazilian side,” said Dr. Trinchenko, Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
Mr. Alexey Seredin, Deputy Director of the Latin American Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, emphasized the importance of constructive interaction between Russia and Brazil in the international arena and outlined the current vectors of cooperation between our countries.
Congratulations and greetings were also delivered by Dr. Roberto De Andrade Mendronho, Rector of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, First Vice-Rector Olga Pavlenko, Dr. Dmitry Rosenthal, Acting Director of the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dr. Varvara Kuznetsova, Director of the International Russian-Brazilian Center, and members of the Academic Council of RSUH.
The Rector of RSUH read out a greeting from Evgeniy Primakov, Director of Rossotrudnichestvo, Chairman of RSUH Alumni Association: “The Center faces important tasks: expanding academic and educational contacts between Russian and Brazilian educational institutions, intensifying academic mobility and including the Brazilian version of the Portuguese language in the Russian university curriculum".
The ceremony ended with the presentation of thanks from the Rector and memorable gifts from the Embassy of Brazil to RSUH students who had taken part in the design of the International Russian-Brazilian Center.
Students of the "Art-Design" center, under the guidance of Galina Volkova, Director of the Center, and Dr.Tatyana Borisova, creatively prepared the opening of the grand opening of the Center.
