RSUH announced an exhibition in Cape Town during a roundtable discussion on Russian-African relations at the State Duma.
On March 6, 2025, a roundtable titled "Information Bridge: Russia — Africa" was held at the State Duma to discuss the current state of mass communications with African countries and to consider proposals for enhancing and expanding Russia-Africa cooperation in the information sphere.
"In the changing landscape of the world, special attention should be paid to the interaction between Russia and Africa," emphasized Maria Zakharova, Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighting the need to overcome Western information colonialism in Africa.
Kinfu Tafesse Zenebe, President of the Union of African Diasporas in Russia, noted that Africa greatly values the efforts of Russian media to disseminate information in African territories not only in Russian but also in local languages. However, he stressed the necessity of considering that over 70% of Africa's population did not live in cities, making radio broadcasting the most effective and accessible means of disseminating current information.
Participants discussed pressing issues related to the coverage of Russian-African relations in the media and blogosphere of both regions, measures to support objective and comprehensive reporting vis-a-vis the pressure of unfriendly countries, and the potential of media and bloggers in promoting Russia's political, economic, and humanitarian presence in Africa. Experts also addressed the shortage of specialists in African languages and the need to resolve this issue, the hindrance of national media growth in Africa by the Western mainstream, and the importance of establishing an information bridge to provide Russian youth with an objective understanding of Africa.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, particularly the Russian Association for International Cooperation, has approached us with a request to hold Africa Day at RSUH in May," said Vera Zabotkina, Acting Vice-Rector for International Cooperation at RSUH.
Since 2023, RSUH has been organizing a series of exhibitions on the role of the USSR and Russia in liberating Africa from neocolonialism.
