By a presidential decree, Igor Sharonov, Head of the Department of Russian Language department at the Institute of Philosophy, became a member of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation for the implementation of state policy in the sphere of supporting the Russian language and languages of the peoples of Russia.

The Council under the President of the Russian Federation deals with issues related to the Russian language and the languages of the peoples of Russia. It was created in 2024. Its main tasks are to support and develop the Russian language and the languages of the peoples of Russia, improve language policy, coordinate the work of various organizations and analyze programs related to languages. The council has 49 members; it is headed by Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation Elena Yampolskaya.
