The Second International Student Olympiad in Philosophy took place in Kaliningrad. One of the winners is Andrei Kochenkov, a student of RSUH.
In total, 6 students from Russia, France and Iran were declared winners. Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Konstantin Mogilevsky addressed the participants, noting that the Olympiad was part of the celebrations dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the birth of the philosopher Immanuel Kant.
"I am sure that the great philosopher himself, if he were alive, would have given preference to just this form of preserving his memory: a live intellectual discussion. Each of the participants went through an exhaustive selection process, which ended with 13 people per place. To overcome such challenges is an achievement in itself," said Konstantin Mogilevsky.
The closing ceremony took place in the 14th century Cathedral on Kant Island in Kaliningrad with six winners and twelve prize winners being announced. Fourth-year student of the Philosophy Department of RSUH Andrei Kochenkov, who became one of the winners of the International Olympiad, expressed his gratitude to his mentors Alexey Kruglov, professor of RSUH and Maxim Evstigneev, a teacher of German classical philosophy, a graduate student at the Higher School of Economics.
"My presentation described the connection between the Kantian debates about Kant's conceptualism/non-conceptualism and the debates between conceptualists and non-conceptualists in modern philosophy of perception, which is my main interest. I wanted to show that knowledge of this connection can help clarify the Kantian question," the winner noted.
The following experts in Russian and Belarusian philosophy gave lectures at the Olympiad: Nina Dmitrieva, Alexey Kozyrev, Tatyana Rumyantseva, Andrei Teslya, Roman Svetlov, Vadim Vasiliev.
The winners received laptops, tablets, and smart speakers as prizes. Also, the best students are provided with benefits when enrolling in the graduate programs of the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University.
The Olympiad is held on the initiative of the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin every two years. In 2024, over 1,000 students from 24 countries took part in it: Russia, Belarus, India, Iran, Spain, Cyprus, Kyrgyzstan and France.
