Delegation from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro visited RSUH

On September 28, a meeting was held at RSUH with Dr. Roberto De Andrade Mendronho, Rector of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro

The development of joint mobility programs with Brazilian universities is one of the priority tasks of RSUH. A significant step in this direction is the opening of the Master’s program in Latin American studies, with a module on the history of Brazil.

First Vice-Rector Olga Pavlenko and Acting Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Vera Zabotkina, at the initiative of the Brazilian side, raised the issue of exchanging speakers between our universities. The colleagues from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro are interested in the development of cognitive research and the introduction of new big data methods, which occupy an important place in the research work of RSUH.

“RSUH has a huge number of international research centers, the largest among the Russian universities. They are not static educational and academic associations, but a dynamic system of international contacts, which allows not only to introduce a system of double diplomas, but also to comprehensively study history, politics and modern relations between states,” said Dr. Zabotkina.

At the meeting, the proposal of opening the International Russian-Brazilian Center for RSUH was raised, as well as the idea of creating centers for studying Russian in foreign universities, including in Brazil.

First Vice-Rector Olga Pavlenko talked about the development of Brazilian studies at the University: “Recently, the students’ interest in the history of the Republic of Brazil has only been increasing. The University management could not ignore this and, together with the Russian Ministry of Education and Science and representatives of the Brazilian Embassy, opened the first International Russian-Brazilian Center in the Russian Federation. It is a great honor for me, on behalf of the Rector of RSUH, to invite you, Mr. Mendronho, to this event.”

In turn, Mr. Roberto De Andrade Mendronho showed particular interest in the development of bilateral relations between our universities and proposed organizing a return visit to the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.

As a result of the meeting, agreements were reached on the exchange of students between universities, and plans were drawn up to expand cooperation, for example, to implement double degree programs and participate in academic projects. A joint conference on the role of Brazil in the modern world was also officially announced, titled “The First Brazilian Readings”, which will be held at RSUH at the end of October.
