August 28, 2023 at the Kuindzhi Mariupol State University a round table was held on the topic “Preserving the past, creating the future. The role of students in modern Russian society"
RSUH was represented by the faculty of the Department of History of the Institute of History and Archives: Dr. Pavel Alipov, Deputy Dean of the Department of History and Theory of Historical Science, Dr. Ivan Kulakov, faculty member of the Center “New Russia. History of Post-Soviet Russia", and students Artem Shumaev and Sofya Tagiltseva.
The event was opened by Dr. Larisa Sivolap, Rector of the Kuindzhi University and First Vice-Rector Dmitry Adamov.
Dr Sivolap said: “Unfortunately, in the new regions of Russia, before the start of the special military operation, the cult of a consumer lifestyle had been actively imposed on young people. Distorted historical facts were being spread in the information space, the facts that were beneficial to the countries unfriendly to ours. Our task is to increase the degree of historical literacy of young people, to form the correct assessment of historical events and facts in the minds of children. This will be facilitated by today’s round table, which will become one of the first academic and educational events for students and young scholars in the city of Mariupol after the Donetsk People’s Republic had joined the Russian Federation.”
Member of the RSUH delegation, Dr. Ivan Kulakov spoke about the work of the Youth Club of the Russian Historical Society and about the measures taken to support students being implemented in the Russian Federation.
Artem Shumaev, Master's student of the Faculty of History, spoke about the existing system of student self-government and projects for youth in the university environment.
Student of the Faculty of History Sofya Tagiltseva talked about student academic associations.
