Open lectures dedicated to Soviet icons were held at the RSUH bookstore "At the Centaur"

Open lectures by Dr. Dmitry Antonov “Soviet Icons: From a Church Barn to a Federal Museum” and Dr. Dmitry Doronin “How the Nizhny Novgorod Soviet Icon Was Invented: Affordances of the North and South” were held as part of open meetings of the Center for Visual Studies of the Middle Ages and Modern Times. At the end of the meeting, the lecturers introduced the audience to their new book “Soviet Icons: History and Ethnography of the Nizhny Novgorod Tradition.

The lecturers spoke about Soviet icons, those wonderful religious artifacts, which were the "assemblage point" of very complex social relations in the Soviet era.

The lecture was followed by a presentation of the book, which was the first ethnographic study of the Soviet icon.
