On the hot July days of 1941, students of the Moscow State Institute of History and Archives (now the Institute of History and Archives of RSUH) fought the enemy near Borisov as part of the Moscow Proletarian Division. In the first battles, Socrat Avetisyan died a hero’s death. We would like to tell about this man in our project "Scientific Regiment".
Sokrat Avetisyan was born in 1912 in Akhuran region. In 1938 he entered the Moscow State Institute of History and Archives. He actively participated in student activities. After graduating from the Institute in 1941, he volunteered for the army as part of the First Moscow Militia. Sokrat Avetisyan died, presumably, in July 1941 near Orsha, and was considered missing since December 1941.
