Today we will talk about the new and promising direction of culturology. We talked with Dr. Natalya Galushina, Head of the Department of Socio-Cultural Practices and Communications at the Faculty of Culturology, about the profession of culturologist.
— What is culturology (cultural studies)?
– Culturology is an interdisciplinary field of knowledge in which any phenomenon of the surrounding world is interpreted in terms of values that people recognize in it.
The main competence of a culturologist is to see in any object of their research a set of specific data points that perform very different functions.
— What programs are offered at the Faculty today?
We offer three profiles for bachelors - "Culture of Russia", "Culture of countries and regions of the world: Europe" and "Culture of mass communications".
At the Master’s level we offer double-diploma international programs.

— What is student life like at your Faculty?
— We involve students in academic life from the first year. We hold student conferences and welcome the participation of students in Faculty conferences. Students are also involved in the projects of the Faculty. And, of course, students have the opportunity to participate in student clubs and associations - a film, music and literature clubs.
—Where can students go for internships?
We work with the most famous organizations in the field of culture, for example, with the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. In the Center for Drama and Directing, our students have been participating in the work of the summer educational program for children “Holidays: Theatrical Dictionary”. Our students have also interned at the Multimedia Art Museum, the ZIL Cultural Center, the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center, the Gulag History Museum and many other cultural institutions.
We are also pleased to have established cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. For the second year now, our students have been doing internships in various departments of the Ministry of Culture, where they can see the culture administration system from the inside.
— Where do your graduates work?
— All the organizations that I mentioned when talking about internships are happy to hire our graduates. Every year we hold the Conference "Profession - Culturologist", to which we invite graduates of our Faculty to talk about their professional development.
