We talked with Dr. Taratorkin, Dean of the Faculty of Archives and Records.

— What do modern archivists do and why is this profession especially relevant today?

The legendary professor Sigurdt Schmidt said that an archivist is the most futurological profession, since the image of the past that will form itself among the people of the future depends on which documents the archivist selects for eternal storage.

—What programs are being implemented at your Faculty?

Bachelor's and Specialist's programs:

• Archival studies abroad. History, culture and archives of France;

• Audiovisual, scientific, technical and economic archives;

• State and municipal archives;

• Information and documentation support of management;

• Expert assessment and restoration of archival documents;

• Electronic archives and documents.

Master's programs:

• History of the Russian Orthodox Church: documentary heritage in archives, museums, libraries;

• Environment: sources, archives, methods and research practices;

• Theory and practice of working with electronic documents in management and archives;

• Document and data management in digital government;

• Management of documentation and documentary heritage in the context of Russian modernization.

— The Faculty of Archives and Records is the oldest faculty at RSUH, which has its own traditions. Please tell us about them.

— The main tradition of our Faculty is the professional brotherhood embracing different generations. Many graduates of the Faculty become teachers themselves. Directors of federal archives work for us, heads of the archival industry and state institutions are invited to teach. Their interaction creates a wonderful atmosphere of creative search, a passion for the profession, which is typical for our faculty.

— What is student life like at the Faculty?

— We have an active Student Council, organize field trips to historical places. Students conduct academic conferences on archiving, records management, regional history and local history. They prepare exhibitions, participate in discussion clubs, master classes, academic societies. Student academic journals are published.

— Where do your students intern?

— Future archivists and document specialists participate in the work of archives or document management services.

— Where do your graduates work? How does studying at the Faculty help students find their place in the professional world?

— Our graduates successfully work at all levels of archival industry and records management. They are directors of federal, municipal and departmental archives, head office management services, work as experts and analysts in the field of assessment of public projects.
