The outstanding psychologist Lev Vygotsky graduated in 1917 from the Faculty of History and Philosophy of our University. He made an invaluable contribution to the development of Russian psychology and psycholinguistics.

Dr. Tatyana Martsinkovskaya, Director of the Vygotsky Institute of Psychology speaks about the work of the Institute: “It is pointless to focus on the research of the twentieth century. But we can rely on what the teachers laid down, and this is how our school seriously differs from foreign ones. There, until recently, it was important to study the fact itself, without any special attempt as to its interpretation. In our approach, which started with Dr. Vygotsky, there has been a combination of experiment and self-observation. And this interpretation is our know-how, something we are not about to lose. It is important for us not just to see, not just to calculate, but also to say what is behind this and that from the point of view of psychology. That is, to understand what the psychological reality is.”
