Dr. Svetlana Djavadova Associate Professor of RSUH, Assistant to the Rector for Inclusive Education, talks to Vedomosti. Gorod about the inclusive programs that are offered at RSUH.
At RSUH, the inclusive program started in 2016. At the moment, 140 people with disabilities study at the University, 17 of them at the Faculties of Culturology, Journalism and Art history. Every year their number increases by 2-3%, and the educational process is constantly being adapted to meet their needs.
One issue for students with disabilities is excessive parental care, says Dr. Djavadova. It is difficult for them to let their child go free because of fear of how they might be treated. “But when a student with disabilities begins to study, communicate with peers, a restructuring occurs. They usually pass the first finals on their own, and with flying colors,” says Svetlana Aleksandrovna.
According to the recent statistics, 45% of undergraduate RSUH graduates with disabilities are employed after graduation, another 40% choose to continue their education, and the remaining 15% do not study further and do not go to work for personal reasons.
