On July 1, the winners of the 2022 youth competitions of the RAF Presidential Program and the 2019 youth group project extension competition, were announced. Among other things, the project of Dr. Alexander Pipersky, Associate Professor of the Center for Computational Linguistics of RSUH, "Political correctness in the Russian language and in Russian culture" was supported with a grant.
Within the framework of the academic project, which began at RSUH in 2019, a comprehensive study of the phenomena associated with political correctness in the Russian language began to be considered in diachronic and synchronic aspects. Political correctness is defined as various linguistic means aimed at avoiding discrimination of social groups ( based on gender, age, race, etc.).
The project will trace how the designations of various social groups in the language have changed, how they act, and what problems native speakers face when using them.
The results of the project can be used in the field of education in the development of textbooks and reference manuals for Russian as a native and a foreign language, as well as in the preparation of recommendations for the media.
Based on the results of the 2022 competitions, the RAF supported 507 projects of young scholars with up to 2 million rubles annually, 403 youth research groups with up to 6 million rubles, and also extended funding for 147 similar projects launched in 2019.
The Presidential Program for Research Projects was developed by the Foundation in 2017 on behalf of the President Putin, its main tasks being to support long-term projects of leading scientists and create career opportunities for promising young researchers. During the implementation of the program, the Foundation has supported more than 5 thousand projects.
