On July 5, a delegation of the Embassy of the Republic of Brazil paid an official visit to RSUH.
The delegation of the Federative Republic of Brazil headed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Russian Federation Rodrigo de Lima Baena Soares included Mr. Andre Riple, Head of the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation at the Embassy of the Federative Republic of Brazil in the Russian Federation and Ms. Natalya Armash, Assistant at the Department of Science, Technology, Innovation and Environment at the Embassy of the Federative Republic of Brazil in Russia.
RSUH was represented by Rector Bezborodov, First Vice-Rector Olga Pavlenko, Dr. Vera Zabotkina, Adviser to the Rectorate for International Affairs, Dr. Natalia Pakhomova, Deputy Head of the Department for International Relations and Dr. Oksana Samoylenko, Senior Lecturer of the Department of European Languages. They noted the special importance of building partnerships between students and faculty of RSUH and universities in Brazil.
Rector Bezborodov expressed his gratitude to his colleagues for their help in organizing a dialogue between the two countries. “Brazil is a very close country to us. We would like to continue to develop fruitful relations in the field of culture and education. We are planning to open an international cultural and educational center jointly with the Brazilian side at RSUH,” said Alexander Borisovich.
“I am very glad to be at RSUH, a university that is making a great contribution to the development of Russian education. This meeting will help strengthen relations between Brazil and Russia,” said Mr. Rodrigo de Lima Baena Soares, Ambassador of the Republic of Brazil to the Russian Federation.
Mr. Ambassador also spoke about his desire to cooperate with RSUH within the framework of the Brazilian Cinema Club project “Cinema in Universities”: “We have already accumulated a large number of films on various topics that we could show to your students. It's a great way towards cultural convergence." The topic of academic and cultural cooperation was also touched upon by the First Vice-Rector Pavlenko. She told the delegation about the Faculty of International Relations, Political Science and Foreign Area Studies of RSUH and about majors in Latin American studies.
Olga Vyacheslavovna made a proposal to open a track that will study the cultural, historical, linguistic and foreign policy aspects of Brazil. “It would be very important for our students. In this way, it will be possible to train specialists who would develop and participate in the infrastructure of cooperation between our countries,” added Dr. Pavlenko. Dr. Zabotkina, Advisor to the Rectorate for International Affairs, spoke about the current cooperation between RSUH and the universities of Brazil: “At the moment, RSUH cooperates under agreements with two universities of the Federative Republic of Brazil – the University of São Paulo and the Federal University of Santa Catarina. A network cooperation agreement is also being prepared with three more universities (University of Londrina, Federal University of Bahia, Federal University of ABC).”
Mr. Rodrigo de Lima Baena Soares offered to organize a number of events to acquaint students of RSUH with the history of Brazil. Rector Bezborodov proposed to hold a number of events at the University dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Independence of Brazil.
During the meeting, the parties agreed on the further implementation of joint educational, cultural and academic projects. The visit concluded with a sightseeing tour of the Museum Center of RSUH.
