On April 7, a meeting was held between Mr. Sholokhov, Representative of the State Duma, First Deputy of the State Duma Committee on Culture, and students of RSUH.

Alexander Mikhailovich spoke about the role of patriotism and its inculcation in people, the development of regional museums and how to improve cultural interaction in the current situation. The discussion was moderated by Rector Bezborodov.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Shkarenkov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Bolkvadze, Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Social Work, as well as by deans and representatives of various University departments.

Mr. Sholokhov began the meeting with a story about the initial stage of his professional path. “I did not start my career as a culturologist, but I have always been interested in this field of activity. Destiny pushed me toward it, even though I studied at the Faculty of Biology,” he said.

Alexander Mikhailovich told the students about the measures to support small regional museums in Russia, the work to preserve and promote cultural values, as well as the reconstruction of cultural heritage sites.

Students asked Mr. Sholokhov about the role of cultural values in modern realities and the actions taken by the authorities to preserve the cultural heritage of Russia.

In particular, students were interested in the fate of cultural objects that had been destroyed as a result of various historical events. They also asked about how destroyed monuments and other buildings that keep historical memory would be restored.

In addition, the participants asked questions about how Russian culturologists could develop cultural interaction in the face of limited international cooperation.

According to Alexander Mikhailovich, no official event yields such abundance of ideas as open personal communication.

“Any conference is held in order to establish contacts between its participants from different fields. With the help of meetings, conversation and exchange of experience, you, the culturologists, will be able to make new acquaintances and establish cultural interaction,” said Mr. Sholokhov.

Alexander Mikhailovich added that now, in addition to the traditional cultural heritage in Russia, young contemporary artists were gaining more and more popularity, so the profession of culturologist was not about to lose its relevance.

At the end of the meeting, Rector Bezborodov expressed his gratitude to Mr. Sholokhov for an open dialogue with students, and also noted the special importance of the discussion for future culturologists.
