By decision of the Bureau of the Department of Historical and Philological Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the composition of the Academic Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the history of the Great Patriotic War was approved. It now includes Dr. Altman, Director of the International Center for the History of the Holocaust and Genocides of RSUH.
The Council was formed as part of the execution of the order of the President of Russia to create a National Center for the Study of the History of the Great Patriotic War. According to Dr. Nikolai Makarov, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, "this topic is being developed in various institutes, universities and the Council functions are coordination of this diverse activity and formation of new directions."
