Workshop on Digital Humanities within the E+ ARTEST project was held at RSUH


On December 23, 2021 an online workshop was held as part of the ERASMUS + Capacity Building project “Enhancing education programs in Arts and Humanities via European STEM methods and tools (ARTEST)”.


The project is implemented within the framework of the following Consortium:

RSUH project coordinator, AG Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Prof. Vera Zabotkina, addressed the audience with the welcoming words and reminded about goals and objectives of the project and the deliverables to be achieved.

Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Nadezhda Arkhipova emphasized that a number of disciplines in digital humanities are already taught at RSUH as part of various study programs. In addition, the Vice-Rector announced a new study program in Digital Humanities and noted that all members of the staff have already completed a re-training course in DH area. Optional courses beginning with new academic year are planned to be integrated into all study programs curricula.

Vice-Rector for Continuing Education Prof. Pavel Shkarenkov informed attendees about the growing relevance of Digital Humanities and outlined the main directions of the digitalization at RSUH.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, the coordinators of the work package WP2.2 related to the workshops organization.

As part of the event, Deans of faculties, leading scientists and administrators introduced their Digital Humanities study programs implemented at RSUH.

One of the leading centers for Digital Humanities in Russia is the RSUH International Institute for New Educational Technologies. Director of the Institute Assoc.prof. Sergey Kuvshinov made a presentation in which he demonstrated the interactive features of the 3DaVinci virtual museum. Special attention was paid to the role of STEAM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Art-Mathematic) methods in education including humanities. He also emphasized the importance of 3D modeling, 3D printing, geoscanning, neurotechnologies, robotic systems, opportunities drones, etc as instruments of study programs in DH.

The Institute has developed a 30-hour Digital Humanities in-service training course for all the staff of all faculties of RSUH.

At the end of the workshop, Head of the Department of Education and Methodology, Assoc. Prof. Vasiliy Makolov presented the curriculum of the new interdisciplinary MA program in Digital Humanities. RSUH is also considering the possibility of building a horizontal format for this program, within which the students majoring in different fields and subject areas would have the opportunity to join the program. It will provide the students an opportunity to design and implement joint research projects.

The workshop has proved the role of the Russian State University for the Humanities as one of the key players in the design and implementation of Digital Humanities study programs in Russia.

Partners from the Mongolian University of Science and Technology appreciated the state-of-the-art of Digital Humanities programs at RSUH and expressed their wish for closer cooperation in the field of robotics and virtual museums.
