Monograph "Precarious Employment: Origins, Criteria, Peculiarities" presented in "At the Centaur"

On January 25, at the bookstore "At the Centaur", a presentation of a new collective monograph "Precarious employment: origins, criteria, features" (edited by of Dr. Zhan Toshchenko) was held.

The presentation began with a brief speech by Dr. Zhan Toshchenko, Chair of the Department of History and Theory of Sociology of RSUH, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He spoke about the preparation of the monograph, explained its purpose and the tasks it set.

The monograph consists of two parts. The first part is dedicated to the general issues of precarious employment, its features and specificities of the main sectors of the economy and culture. The second part is dedicated to employment in certain social communities. It contains chapters analyzing industry, agriculture, transport, service sector and other sectors of economy and culture.

The study is based on statistical and sociological data obtained as a result of large-scale surveys in 2014–2015. and especially 2018–2020, which showed that precarious employment was becoming a characteristic feature of all sectors of society.

Analyzing the monograph, Dr. Svetlana Klimova, a leading research fellow at the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, praised the quality and coherence of the work of the authors.

“When I received this collective work, in addition to the fact that a complex and urgent problem was being investigated, I was pleased that the structure of the book shows that this is a proof of existence of an academic school. It is also important that this work has a single conceptual and research base,” she said.

The presentation of the book ended with a discussion of the issue of precarious employment. The participants actively proposed various ideas for the development and further research in this area.
