As part of the All-Russian Forum “My Family in the Legendary Chronicle of the Fatherland”, the face-to-face part of which took place on January 25 at the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, educational sessions were held by the faculty of RSUH, dedicated to teaching how to work with archival documents and compiling a family tree. Also, Ms. Ksenia Yamasheva, a graduate student of the Knorozov Mesoamerican Center, was presented as an expert at the plenary session.
Educational sessions on working with archival documents and compiling a family tree were held by Dr. Elena Burova, Chair of the Department of Archival Science, Acting Director of the Institute of History and Archives, Dr. Anna Karandeeva, specialist in educational and methodological work of the Department of Archival Studies and Dr. Evgeny Pchelov, Chair of the Department of Auxiliary Historical Disciplines and Archeography.
The Forum encourages young people to study the trajectory of their family in the general historical context of the country. This year, the participants spoke in such sections as "Labor achievements", "Achievements in the field of art and culture", "Parents with many children", "Heroes and veterans of the wars for freedom and independence of the Fatherland of different eras."
The plenary session, where the resolution of the Forum was adopted and its results summed up, was attended by:
● Dr. Andrey Maksimov, Chairman of the Expert Council of the corporate non-profit organization Union of Russian Cities;
● Dr. Sergei Kochnev, Director of the Institute for the Development of Local Communities;
● Dr. Marina Gordeeva, Chairman of the Board of the Foundation for the Support of Children in Difficult Life Situations;
● Dr. Alexander Kozlov, a representative of the Moscow City Duma;
● Dr. Aleksey Gusev, executive secretary of the Coordinating Council of the National Parent Association;
● Dr. Egor Timofeev, Head of the Department for Information and Analysis of the All-Russian Association for the Development of Local Self-Government;
● Dr. Victoria Misyutina, President of the Center “Our Heritage”;
● Dr. Grigory Petushkov, Chairman of the Association of Public Associations “National Council of Youth and Children's Associations of Russia”.
Ms. Ksenia Yamasheva, graduate student of the Knorozov Mesoamerican Center, acted as an expert presenting the site "Heroes and veterans of the wars for the freedom and independence of the Fatherland of different eras". During the work of the section, a proposal was made to simplify the work of archives in remote regions of the country due to the issue of access to archived data.
“Our section was interesting, productive and very lively. The participants presented valuable and detailed research on the topic of compiling a family tree and restoring the biographies of veterans of the Great Patriotic War, their military path and awards. In the context of the current world politics and the existing trend of rewriting history, it is extremely important to see the interest of different generations in the history of the War. We can be sure that as long as this connection is alive and passed down in families from generation to generation, no one will ever rewrite our history.”
— Ksenia Yamasheva, PhD student, Knorozov Mesoamerican Center.
Summing up, the steering committee of the Forum unanimously agreed that the main value today was knowledge, first of all, of the history of one’s family. As Dr. Grigory Petushkov, Chairman of the association “National Council of Youth and Children's Associations of Russia”, noted: “We are a continuation of everything that has happened in our country. Our responsibility is to pass on our story."
The existence of the Forum makes it possible to bring the study of history to a new level by creating new cultural products and transferring professional education not only at a university or school, but also in the family.
The project of the Forum "My Family in the Legendary Chronicle of the Fatherland" was developed by the center for socio-economic initiatives "My Fatherland" jointly with the center "Our Heritage". It aims to draw attention to the history and traditions of the family, its role in the development of the village, city, country, as well as inculcate in young citizens a sense of respect for the cultural heritage of their ancestors.
The program of the Forum had been developed in alignment with the position of President Putin on the importance of a personal example and sincere and meaningful actions in the upbringing of the younger generation.
