A regular meeting of the seminar of the Faculty of Culturology of RSUH on media and image research "Cultural practices in technological media environments" took place at RSUH. This time, the participants discussed the notion and methods of researching immersion.
At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the seminar, Dr. Zakharchenko made a presentation on the topic "Immersion in technological environments: approaches to study". She demonstrated the relevance of studies of immersion as in the digital age human cognitive strategies are shifting away from the search for interpretations and meanings towards sensory and emotional experience, the experience of "involvement".
Dr. Zakharchenko concluded her presentation by substantiating the thesis about the need to study immersion in an interdisciplinary space.

Ms. Olga Shchedrina, a graduate student of the Department of History and Theory of Culture at RSUH, presented several examples of the possibilities of creating immersive environments using digital technologies.
The participants of the seminar were actively involved in the discussion of issues related to the definition of the content and boundaries of the concept of "immersion". Discussed, in particular, was the differences between everyday involvement and interactivity.
Mr. Andrey Petropavlov, a graduate student of the Department of History and Theory of Culture, proposed to consider several immersive projects of the Museum of the History of the Gulag, where he works, formulating important questions about modeling immersion, its difference from entertainment, as well as defining some exhibitions as "immersive".
