On the 22^d of May, the demonstration lecture by Professor of Emory University (Atlanta, USA), Mikhail Epstein “The constructive potential of the Humanities” held in the Russian State University for the Humanities.

Mikhail Epstein thanked the Administration of the University for organizing this meeting.

Professor Epstein in his lecture talked about the specifics and paradoxicality of the Humanities. He noted that the Humanities are the sphere of self-knowledge of human and humanity. Paradox of self-reference is at the heart of the Humanities, defining the complicated correlation of their humanitarian and scientific. Human sciences are built around this paradox, they study the most studying and they name the name; therefore they have in their center the break of the discourse.

Then Mikhail Epstein paid attention to the fact that the system of human knowledge and skill has one missing link. According to him, the every Humanity must become the art of changing that it is exploring.

In conclusion of the lecture Mikhail Epstein emphasized that the constructive potential of the Humanities is a theme demanding not only theoretical, but practical development. The future of the universities depends on the realization of this constructive potential of the Humanities at the universities.
