The development of the partnership between the Russian State University for the Humanities and American universities in the field of joint student programs

In May 2008, our university was visited by students from the University of Michigan - members of the program "Russia Today: education, economics, politics, culture". We have already wrote about this unique program, prepared by the chair of the English Language Department, director of the Information analysis office, I.V. Petrova and director of the Department for work with foreign students S.B. Petukhova. All lectures were read by students in English, with the final evaluations which were marked for Russia on a new, but habitual for Western universities, system of credit units.

At the RSUH's web page, more than 30 courses on the history, political science, economics, culture, which are read by our teachers in English, are called attention to foreign students.

In conclusion of the program "Russia Today: education, economics, politics, culture" the cooperation between universities and communication between American and Russian students, meeting and making friends thanks to this program, continue. Memories of the stay in Russia, the knowledge, gained in the RSUH, and new friends, purchased here will remain forever in the memory of our guests. That’s what American students write about their impressions of the program, travel, Russia and the RSUH.

Moscow by accounts

Christine Barrera

After sharing with my parents about my trip, they told me it sounds like how things were in the 1950s in the USA, which is a good reaction because it was an ideal time! Otherwise, I'm not really sure how to say what I thought about it except that it was wonderful and interesting and completely different from anywhere I've been, especially the people. I suppose it is comparable, physically, to Chicago. Which is certainly one of my favorite places to be.

Before coming to Moscow, I honestly did not know what to expect. All of the students, especially you, were so hospitable to us and so open to learning about our culture and way of life. It is funny because I expected so many things to be standard in Moscow, not realizing that not everything is going to be the same as America. For example, I expected people to smile at you when you made an eye contact and it was weird for me that there were no refils in restaurants. In all, the way of life in Moscow is a lot different than my life in America. I do not think it is a wrong way of life, it is just foreign to me.

I am an Economics major interested in different economic systems and analysis. I came to Moscow interested in learning about its current economic state as well as the situation of its different ethnicities. I learned a lot in regards to these interests with the help of RSUH's very learned and kind professors, as well as the students. The students showed us an amazing time in Moscow and not only did we have a really fun time, but I also made very valuable friendships. This experience was so excellent that I hope to return to RSUH in graduate school and study Russian for some time.
