On the 18th of July, 2008, the round-table with the participation of students from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute (USA), the Russian State University for the Humanities (the RSUH) and Lomonosov Moscow State University took place in the RSUH.
On the 18th of July, 2008, the round-table with the participation of students from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute (USA), the Russian State University for the Humanities (the RSUH) and Lomonosov Moscow State University took place in the RSUH.
The following persons took part in the round-table meeting: the Rector of the RSUH, Efim I. Pivovar and the Director of Information analysis office, the Chair of English language Department, Irina V. Petrova.
The group of students from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute is in our university in the framework of educational program "Russia Today", having compiled by the Chair of the Russian language program of Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Professor Nyusya Milman-Miller, Irina V. Petrova and the Director of the Division for work with foreign students UMS RSUH, Svetlana B. Petukhova. The program included lessons on Russian language, cultural and familiarization activities and theme days during which well-known specialists from the RSUH are reading lectures to the students on Russian history, literature, economics and political science in English. The first of them was the lecture of the Rector of the RSUH "Education in Russia today", read on the 12th of May, 2008 to the students from the University of Michigan.
Professor Milman-Miller noted that students from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute having come to the RSUH since 2003. Here they are study in summer and winter Russian language schools, receiving for it a definite number of credit units, and acquainting with the history and culture of our country, sights and memorable places of the Russian capital and its environs. She expressed special thanks to the Rector of the RSUH for his continued support of the joint educational programs.
Efim I. Pivovar stressed the importance of the program "Russia Today", which not only allows American students to raise the level of proficiency in a Russian language and get additional knowledge about our country in whole, but also creates a dialog youth area of both countries to discuss important issues, representing mutual interest.
Participations of the round-table discussed various aspects of the modern Russian-American relations, changes in the political consciousness of Russian citizens in the post-Soviet period, youth participation in political life in our country and in the North America, problems of the modern economics, the nominees’ programs for the future presidential elections in the USA and several other actual issues.
