The event was held March 31 as part of Readings in Humanities, organized by the Department Sociology. Dr. Toschenko, Dean of the Department, said in the opening speech that he hoped that the conference would become a starting point for many young specialists.

The plenary meeting was attended by various representatives from many Russian universities.

The conference had three working round tables dealing with the following topics:

• ideals in Russian society

• intelligentsia as means to translate these ideals into society

• issues of applied sociology
