In December, RSUH hosted an international forum "Russian language and literature in the era of digitalization: new approaches, methods and didactic tools." The forum was held in Armenia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan with a grant from the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation (Agreement No. 073-15-2020-2638 of November 24, 2020). The project coordinator is Dr. Pavlenko, First Vice-Rector of RSUH.
The Forum was attended by 435 people in Armenia, 235 people in Tajikistan, and 156 people in Uzbekistan.
During the Forum, which took place on December 3-4, the scholars of RSUH shared with representatives of educational institutions of Armenia their experience of teaching the Russian language, studying Russian literature and culture in the era of digitalization.
Before the start of the Forum, Rector Alexander Bezborodov thanked the teachers from Armenia for their interest in the event in the current difficult time for the Armenian people and noted the importance of the Forum for the development of international cooperation.
“The Russian language and literature is the resource that we definitely consider in the relationship between Russia and Armenia. RSUH possesses a wide range of educational technologies and an array of tools for an in-depth study of the Russian language and literature. This is our heritage, which we are ready to share with you,” said Rector in his welcoming speech.
Dr. Olga Pavlenko, First Vice-Rector of RSUH, noted that Russian-Armenian relations are based not only on interstate interaction, but also on strong historical and cultural ties: “It was important for us to carefully prepare the Forum program for teachers of the Russian language and literature in Armenia, because we understand how difficult it was for you to get together in the current conditions. We thank you for this and hope that we will meet your expectations. Our University has prepared proposals for the effective use of digital technologies in teaching the Russian language."
Dr. Konstantin Derevyanko, Chairman of the academic and educational union Rodnoe Slovo, member of the Russian Presidential Council for the Russian language, noted the role of the humanities in the development of international relations: “Our strategic partnership with the largest liberal arts university in the Russian Federation should bring a new idea to the promotion of the Russian language and education in the Russian language”.
On the first day of the Forum, Dr. Maxim Krongauz, Chief Researcher of the Laboratory of Sociolinguistics, gave a lecture "Changes in Russian vocabulary under the influence of the Internet", talking about how the status of the Russian language changed in different periods of time
Dr. Natalya Bragina, Professor of the Russian Language Department of the Institute of Philology and History of RSUH, delivered a lecture "Speech mistakes in Internet communication in Russian".
The first day of the Forum ended with a round table on the topic "Modern issues, opportunities and prospects for teaching and learning the Russian language."
Within the framework of the Forum, an online discussion took place between the faculty of RSUH and the colleagues from Uzbekistan. It was dedicated to the teaching and research related to Russian language, Russian literature and culture in the context of academic digitalization.
Before the opening of the Forum, Rector Alexander Bezborodov thanked the teachers from Uzbekistan for their interest and noted the importance of the event for the cooperation between Russia and the post-Soviet countries. Rector also reminded the audience about the opening of a branch of RSUH in 2021 at Samarkand State University. Currently, the roadmap of this project is being finalized, headed by Vice-Rector Pavlenko.
“For us, the Forum is an important event, since the RSUH is strengthening and expanding ties with the institutions of higher education of Uzbekistan. We are glad to work together on the project of opening a branch of RSUH in Uzbekistan. I believe that this will enrich our colleagues with educational methods and practices, Uzbekistan being our reliable strategic partner,” said Rector Bezborodov.
In her speech, Vice-Rector Olga Pavlenko emphasized the special importance of cooperation between RSUH and universities in Eurasian states: “It is a great honor for us to open a Forum with Samarkand University. Expanding contacts and ties with Eurasian universities is a priority strategic task of RSUH. For five years now we have been developing educational programs for the Russian language and literature classes in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Armenia. The Days of Russian Language and Culture are also held with great success in the EU countries: Italy, Austria, Germany."
The Forum was attended by Professor Mukhtor Nasirov, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation of Samarkand State University. He expressed gratitude to the leadership of RSUH for the fruitful cooperation.
In his welcoming speech to the Forum participants, Dr. Konstantin Derevyanko, Chairman of Rodnoe Slovo and member of the Russian Presidential Council for the Russian Language, spoke about the system of promoting the Russian language and literature in the CIS countries.
“Much attention is paid to the promotion of the Russian language and literature in the CIS countries. For many years our Union has been working to promote and preserve the Russian language and literature abroad. Today, we are discussing the issue of creating a single coordination center that will unite the efforts of all academic institutions and educational organizations on the basis of RSUH. It is planned to create an effective strategic program to support and promote the Russian language abroad,” said Dr. Derevyanko.
On the first day of the online Forum, Dr. Vladimir Shunikov, Director of the Institute of Continuing Education of RSUH, delivered the lecture “Literature in the Digital World” and Dr. Yuri Domansky, Professor of the Institute of Philology and History of RSUH, talked about Russian classical drama in our days.
Also, an international round table "Will a Computer Replace a Teacher?" was held, during which methods of teaching literature to generation Z were discussed.
The program of the Forum included the round table "Contemporary issues, opportunities and prospects for teaching and learning the Russian language."
To conduct the face-to-face part of the Forum, Dr. Yuri Domansky, Professor of the Institute of Philology and History of RSUH and Dr. Yuri Filippov, Chair of the Department of Strategic Projects of RSUH, visited Uzbekistan educational institutions. Face-to-face events were also held at Samarkand State University. There, on December 17, 2020, a lecture was held by Dr. Yuri Domansky on the subject of contemporary song poetry in Russia: poetics and language.
After the lecture, the Russian guests continued to communicate with colleagues at a round table and discussed the problems that exist today in teaching the Russian language and humanities in general, talked about the prospects for bilateral cooperation in the field of educational Russian language and literature programs.
The representatives of Samarkand University expressed interest both in the programs for teaching spoken Russian ("Russian as a foreign language" and "Russian for national schools") and in the training of qualified philological experts.

RSUH experts shared with their colleagues from Tajikistan the methods of teaching and learning the Russian language and literature in the context of digitalization.
In his speech, Rector of RSUH Alexander Bezborodov thanked the teachers from Tajikistan for participating in the Forum and commented on the interest in the study of the Russian language and literature in the Republic.
“Our Forum is proof of our close international ties. The year 2020 has highlighted the importance of digitalization in the context of the information revolution. RSUH has worked for a long time on improving information technologies in the field of teaching Russian language and literature. We have every reason to say that we are ready for long-term cooperation in this area in the post-Soviet space,” said Rector.
Dr. Naziri Latofat, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan, in turn, thanked RSUH for the opportunity to take part in the Forum and hailed the idea of opening a branch of RSUH in Dushanbe.
“We would like to express our gratitude to the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, which supported the proposal of colleagues from RSUH and allowed this wonderful event to take place. We are confident that during the Forum our teachers of the Russian language and literature will gain new knowledge from colleagues from Russian State University for the Humanities. This will become the basis for scientific and educational cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia,” - said Dr. Naziri Latofat. “We would like to see a branch of RSUH opened in Dushanbe.”
Dr. Olga Pavlenko, First Vice-Rector of RSUH, emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two countries, noting the demand for the Russian language in Tajikistan.
“We are grateful to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan, Dushanbe State University and the teachers of Russian language and literature for their sincere interest in the work of the Forum. We hope that next year we will be able not only to hold a big face-to-face event in Dushanbe, but also to invite the best Tajik teachers to Russia to improve their skills,” said Dr. Pavlenko.
Dr. Konstantin Derevyanko, Chairman of Rodnoe Slovo, member of the Russian Presidential Council, emphasized the importance of the Forum for improving the teaching of the Russian language in Tajikistan and invited his colleagues to consider creating an international digital platform for the sharing of experience.
Presentations were made by Dr. Maxim Krongauz, chief researcher of the Laboratory of Sociolinguistics of RSUH, Dr. Natalia Bragina, Professor of the Russian Language Department at the Institute of Philology and History of RSUH, Dr. Yuri Domansky, Professor of the Institute of Philology and History of RSUH and Dr. Vladimir Shunikov, Director of the Institute of Continuing Education of RSUH.
Mr. Muhammadyusuf Saydali Imomzoda, Minister of Education and Science of Tajikistan, expressed gratitude for the organization of the Forum.
Despite the pandemic, about a thousand people were able to take part in the lectures and round tables in on-line and offline formats, gain new knowledge, improve their professional competencies and communicate with colleagues from other countries. The unique experience of implementation of large-scale projects will serve as the basis for the further development of the strategically significant work of RSUH, aimed at strengthening the role of the Russian language in the international educational, academic and cultural space.
