Today, we remember the courage and heroism of Soviet soldiers who, for nearly a decade, honorably fulfilled their military duty in the harsh climatic and geographical conditions of Afghanistan, participating in combat operations.
Exactly 36 years ago, the withdrawal of Soviet troops from the country of Afghanistan was completed, marking a significant milestone in Russian history. Thousands of soldiers lost their lives on foreign soil, demonstrating fearlessness and bravery for the sake of peace and stability in the region. 2025 has been declared Defender of the Fatherland Year and the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Therefore, on February 15, we honor the valor of all Soviet soldiers, as well as Russian servicemen who continue to serve on the frontiers of our nation, risking their lives and fighting for the security and independence of our homeland. Participants in the Special Military Operation are now shaping a new history of a strong and sovereign Russia. Among them are many Afghan War veterans who not only participate in combat but also support the families of fallen comrades.
Today, we preserve the memory of those who did not return from the battlefield. We remember the irreplaceable losses among Soviet soldiers in Afghanistan and express our condolences and sincere gratitude to their families for their patience and resilience.
