The Faculty of Art History was created on the basis of the Department of Museology of the Institute of History and Archives. In the spirit of supporting and
developing the traditions of museology, the Faculty has also created a program of fundamental art history education.
Currently, over a 1000 students study at the Faculty, majoring in history of world art, history of Russian art, museology, preservation of natural and cultural heritage monuments, theory and practice of contemporary art, art design and a number of majors related to contemporary art. The Faculty helps evolve unique areas of specialization, such as underwater archeology and set design of exhibition space.
The priority for the Faculty is to provide educated personnel for both state and private institutions related to art. Particular attention is paid to art management, curating, art criticism, film studies.
The Faculty, within the Higher School of Art Practices and Museum Technologies, implements continuing education programs in more than 30 specializations, from book restoration to creating one’s own curatorial project.
The Faculty of Art History collaborates with the leading centers in the field of classical and contemporary art, conducts active academic and expert events, participates in socially significant programs, provides support for university-related art projects.
