The Center was opened at the Institute of Linguistics of RSUH in 2011 jointly with ABBYY and with the support of the Russian branch of IBM. Since 2012, the Center has offered the major "Computer Linguistics" (track "Fundamental and Applied Linguistics").
The relevance of the program is determined by the fact that in the last 10-15 years there has been a rapid development of this area, associated with the growing influence of the Internet and the emergence of a huge number of new technical devices, the most important part of which are natural language interfaces. In addition, modern linguistics is undergoing a rapid transition from traditional methods of obtaining language data to corpus-based methods, which require a serious upgrade of computer technology.
The Master’s program in computer linguistics is based on a deep study of the fundamental foundations of linguistics with an emphasis on creating operational formal language models related to speech recognition and synthesis, computer translation, semantic analysis and understanding of text, intellectual search.
