On October 24, 2024, our university was visited by a professor from the Brazilian Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Doctor of Political Science (Ph.D. in Political Science), Master of International Strategic Studies Boris Perius Zabolotsky. He is also the vice-president and the co-founder of the Russia-Brazil Youth Organization, headquartered in Porto Alegre, a member of the Valdai Club and the Gorchakov Club in Moscow.
His visit and lecture for the RSUH students and teachers were organized by the International Russian-Brazilian Center (director L. Baturina) together with the American Studies Discussion Club (leader prof. V. Zhuravleva)
The topic of the lecture given by Professor Zabolotsky: "Vectors of Brazil's Foreign Policy: Russia and BRICS". The lecture covered the history of relations between the two countries through the prism of world historical events and the change of leadership in Brazil. It was especially interesting to listen to the core contradictions and disagreements between Russia and Brazil on various issues, as well as the points of convergence of interests. It is remarkable that this meeting took place against the backdrop of the BRICS summit in Kazan and a week after the visit of the delegation of Brazilian rectors to RSUH, which indicates the search for rapprochement between the academic communities of Russia and Brazil.
Concluding his lecture, Professor Zabolotsky asked the audience important questions, to which, as he himself admitted, there is no simple answer, but which gave rise to a discussion on the topic of international relations.
The moderator of the meeting was Prof. Dr. Victoria Zhuravleva, Head of the Department of American Studies of the Faculty of International Relations, Political Science and Foreign Regional Studies. On behalf of RSUH, Acting Vice-Rector welcomed the guest for International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Vera Zabotkina. The working language of the meeting was English.
