September 7 is Brazil's Independence Day. On this day in 1822, the first Brazilian Emperor Pedro I declared Brazil free from Portuguese colonial rule. On September 11, in honor of the Brazilian national Independence Day, the Embassy of Brazil in Moscow held a gala event in “Zaryadye”, one of the most prestigious concert halls in Russia, where representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry and Embassies of other countries in Moscow, Brazilian and Russian businesses, as well as universities that closely cooperate with Brazil were invited: RSUH, MGIMO, MSU, MSLU. Personal invitations were received by: Vice-Rector for Research Pavlenko O.V., Acting Vice-Rector for International Cooperation V.I. Zabotkin, Head of the Department of Regional Studies V.I. Zhuravleva, Director of the International Russian-Brazilian Center of the Russian State University for the Humanities L.I. Baturina, and the students of RSUH who completed an internship at the Russian-Brazilian Center in 2024.
In his speech, Ambassador Rodrigo Baena Soares emphasized the importance of culture in developing dialogue between Brazil and Russia. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Ryabkov especially emphasized the friendly and cultural ties that unite both countries.
The main musical highlight of the event was Igor Butman, a Russian jazz performer who has previously performed with Dave Brubeck and Wynton Marsalis. The Butman Quartet, accompanied by singer Fantine Pritula, performed a Brazilian program that included works by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Sergio Mendes, and Luis Bonfa.
At the end of the concert, a reception was held, where more than a thousand guests had the opportunity to enjoy brazilian caipirinha.
During the reception, the works of Brazilian photographer Ricardo Martins, who specializes in depicting nature, were shown in the Zaryadye Concert Hall.
At the end of the reception, all guests received memorable gifts from the Embassy of Brazil with postcards of the country, Brazilian coffee and chocolate.
