Today, RSUH joins the nation in remembering those who courageously fought to free our homeland from Nazi occupation.
The Great Patriotic War lasted 3 years, 10 months, and 18 days. Victory over fascism came at a tremendous cost: almost 27 million Soviet citizens, both military and civilian, lost their lives. In total, the Germans destroyed 1,710 cities and over 70,000 towns and villages in the USSR. After the War, the country lay in ruins: industry, infrastructure, and both fundamental and applied science were devastated. But the most important thing the fascists couldn’t destroy was the courage and spirit of our defenders.
On this sacred anniversary, we honor our Heroes. Eighty years ago, our soldiers, officers, partisans, and home front workers achieved an incredible feat by winning the most brutal and bloody war of the 20th century. Tears well up when we think of the hardships our grandparents and great-grandparents endured, the trials they overcame.
RSUH honors the memory of its staff, faculty, students, and alumni who voluntarily went to the front in 1941 and gave their lives for our future.
We will never forget the price of Victory. The heroism of the Soviet people will forever stand as a symbol of patriotism and moral strength.
Happy Victory Day! May the sacred holiday of May 9 inspire noble deeds and love for our Motherland!
